Unlike the detox drink, you don’t have to worry about drinking it after a meal so it gives you plenty of flexibility. Drink it whenever you want! The ingredients are very different. This drink starts with filtered water, cold pressed lemon juice, horsetail, red clover, cayenne and hydrolyzed marine collagen peptides.
I know, that was my question too.
Basically, to quote the website, this crazy blend “was carefully selected to improve skin elasticity, hydration, and skin density, increase internal collagen production and offer nutrients for optimal hair health.” Read more about the benefits and the details here.
But what’s with the fish?
“We source our collagen exclusively from fish scales as opposed to bovine (beef) or poultry (chicken) sources due to its excellent bioavailability (amount of the substance that your body actually digests and absorbs, from which it experiences an active effect).
Hydrolyzed fish collagen peptides are collagen amino acid strands that have been broken down into a smaller molecular size for easy absorption. In this state, case studies have shown 95% of the collagen strands are absorbed within the first 12h post-administration. Additionally, since collagen peptides are known to stimulate fibroblast cells (these make up the cell structure of the dermis), the effects of collagen ingestion are long-term in helping to promote collagen production naturally.”
And what are isoflavones?
“Red Clover contains isoflavones used to support healthy lymphatic function, immunity, healthy skin and balanced endocrine activity. Its active ingredients include daidzein, genistein, biochannin-A, and others which help to combat the subtle signs of aging, including decreased collagen production. Case studies have shown a direct link between isoflavone supplementation and increased collagen production, improved skin elasticity/thickening and wrinkle reduction, particularly in aging women.
Ingesting these nutrients–or phytoestrogens more generally–from products such as GMO-soy (where they are commonly found and extremely tampered with) is a different experience entirely for your body. All of our herbs are certified non-GMO.”
Read the nutrition info below and decide for yourself if you think it’s something you want to try. I plan to do it at least once a month. After six days I felt like my skin had gone through a cycle where I had broken out (maybe partly from last week’s detox as well) but was beginning to clear up. My skin looked brighter for real, my pores a bit less noticeable and the texture really smooth. Big changes for me who has never had very good skin!
UPDATE: I am on my second case in a four week period and I am obsessed. Ordering is so easy. YOU JUST TEXT THEM AND SAY SHIP ME A CASE. Genius. I will keep you posted with my progress but I am feeling great and my skin is clearing up nicely!
A friend recently told me about the app Think Dirty. What is it? Straight from their website Think Dirty says:
“WE EMPOWER INGREDIENT-CONSCIOUS CONSUMERS TO CHOOSE THE SAFEST BEAUTY + PERSONAL PRODUCTS!
Think Dirty® app is the easiest way to learn about the potentially toxic ingredients in your cosmetics and personal care products. Just scan the product barcode and Think Dirty will give you easy-to-understand info on the product, its ingredients, and shop cleaner options!”
Amazing right? Oh, and it’s free.
I loved reading the founder’s story and how she developed this app to empower and educate consumers. Like many of us she didn’t realize how many cancer causing and hormone disrupting chemicals are found in products we use everyday.
The Kit best describes how the app works: “Think Dirty is an app that allows you to scan bar codes of beauty products, or search by a key word, and up comes a dirty rating. If the product has a rating of 0-3, it’s considered very safe with ingredients that do not cause any negative effects, while a 10 is a big red flag indicating that there are ingredients that could cause negative long term effects. The app rates the products by three categories: carcinogenicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, and allergenicity and immunotoxicity. The ingredients in the products are the main focus, since company policies and practices can “greenwash” their products, making them seem safer then they are.” Read more about Think Dirty from The Kithere.
My beauty routine is not nearly as clean as I want it to be but I am hoping through this app, I can get to a much healthier place. There is also a Shop section on the site where you can get the cleanest products all in one place. I’m so sold!
So, you have long heard me sing (scream?) the praises of my beloved Apple Cider Vinegar. I have a small “shot” a couple of times a day followed by copious amounts of water to protect my teeth. I use it in marinades, every salad dressing, in my morning lemon water (that I used to drink religiously until I had a baby BUT I will get back to this!) and even throw a splash in my green smoothie (it is undetectable, I swear).
I came across this article on Health Ambition that caught my eye. Want me to sum it up for you? Scarlett Johansson uses an ACV mixture as a face wash. Um, if it’s good enough for #scarjo it’s darn sure good enough for me.
Step 1: To begin making your apple cider vinegar face wash, take a small bowl and pour around a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 3 tablespoons of warm water into it for a 1 to 3 ratio. As your skin gets more comfortable with ACV you can adjust this up to a 1 to 2 or even a 1 to 1 ratio.
Click here for the rest of the directions and benefits.
I am excited to have a new safe face wash that I can make in my house, with no chemicals or crap, and that really works!
Do you guys drybrush? I admit, I slack in the drybrushing department but am really trying to make it a daily habit. One of the most recent pieces of convincing evidence I came across was this great video from our friend Vani aka The Food Babe. Watch it, then come back to me.
Doesn’t that viddie make you want to run out and buy a dry brush? Here is a link to the one I ordered and I love it. Long handled, affordable, and painless.
In case you didn’t watch the video (I see you!) I read more about the benefits of daily dry brushing from the Wellness Mama. Her list includes:
1. Lymphatic Support-Basically, a natural self detox of your bod!
2. Exfoliation-Baby soft skin, noticeable after your first dry brushing experience…score!
3. Clean Pores-Got Back-Ne? Drybrushing can help with that too!
4. Improves Cellulite-I am still skeptical on this but, hey, I am giving it one heck of a shot. Experts say it’s temporary.
Wellness Mama lists a lot more fantastic information so check out her site for more specific deets.
Have I talked you into it? Give it a try, the hardest part for me is just adding it into my daily routine, before I shower in the mornings. But it doesn’t take long and the benefits are immense. Let me know what you discover when you start drybrushing!
PS I decided to meet with an expert on drybrushing and had myself professionally drybrushed this week. I will post my update in a few weeks on professional vs self brushing! Let’s just say I am a fan of both!
