Right About Now…

Right about now 1KRAUT…say what?!  A few months ago my friend Jessica asked me about eating raw, fermented sauerkraut and I asked her if she had lost her freaking mind.  But, no lie, she went on to tell me that she swears this amazing snack cured her daughter’s eczema and totally improved her overall skin and health.  Who am I to argue with that?  So I went down to Health Nut and scooped up all three Farmhouse Culture flavors that they had in stock (they also carry at Fresh Market guys!).  Each flavor is good but my favorite is the Garlic Dill Pickle Kraut.  If you like dill pickles, this is your jam.  My friend’s fave is Ginger Beet but it’s a little strong even for me!  The benefits of this raw kraut are endless but know that it is loaded with calcium, magnesium, fiber, folate, iron, potassium, and vitamins C, B and K.  Oh, and it is delicious!  I eat about four forkfuls a day for a mid afternoon snack.  Make sure you get the raw, fermented, refrigerated kraut…not the crap in a jar.

Cashew Milk…So I was perusing the aisles of a local discount store the other day with a friend and stumbled upon Unsweetened Cashew Milk.  You guys.  It is SO good!  It only has 25 calories per serving and ZERO sugar.  I was shocked.  And also, duh, it’s GMO free!  Look for it popping up in more and more locations soon.  I have been using it in place of Almond Milk in my BEC Smoothie and my coffee.

Super Tuesdays…Evidently Super Tuesday is a basketball term but not in my house.  This was my husband’s idea but I have been loving it. Tuesday night is super food night for us…everything (I try) on our plate is a superfood.  For example last Tuesday’s menu was wild caught salmon with lemon, roasted sweet potatoes with cinnamon and turmeric, and steamed broccoli.  Ok so maybe not super exciting but I love a theme and I love that my husband is getting into the clean eating act!  This idea would work well with kids too…

Grapeseed Oil…in the bathroom!  This mild smelling oil is perfect for sensitive skin. I have been slathering it onto my damp skin as soon as I turn the shower off.  It isn’t greasy and absorbs quickly so getting dressed right after is NBD.  This source also sites it’s loaded with Vitamin C, antioxidants, and helps regulate your natural oil production!  Win/win!

Kombucha…A year ago this word would have sounded like a foreign language to me but today, it is one of my favorite drinks when I want something sweet to sip on but don’t feel like poisoning my body with an actual soda!  Have you guys tried Kombucha? It’s a bubbly, fizzy drink made with tea, sugar, bacteria, and yeast.  I know, sounds sick right?  BUT I PROMISE IT IS NOT.  Kombucha is loaded with B Vitamins, enzymes, probiotics, and acids, that according to this source, do the following amazing things:

  • improve digestion
  • weight loss
  • increase energy
  • clean and detoxify the body
  • immune support
  • reduce joint pain
  • cancer prevention

Wow!  Isn’t that a gamechanger? So you could learn how to make Kombucha at home but to that, I say “no thanks”!  I buy mine on Amazon or Health Nut where they have it on tap!  I look for no sugar in mine when possible and love any of them that contain ginger!

Tiff and Mary warn though not to chug the whole bottle in one sitting.  It’s a powerful drink so take a few sips at a time slowly then switch to water.  I keep a kombucha in my console (when it’s cold outside like it is now) and drink on it slowly all day, usually drinking one bottle in two days.

 and finally….
