My new favorite post work out drink!

So most people love Gatorade, Powerade, G2, etc. We have been taught by marketing that this stuff is good for us and we NEED to drink it. Whether we go on a 15 minute run, have an hour pilates class, go to lacrosse practice, have a tennis match, blah, blah, blah. The marketing for these products is excellent. Instead of thinking we are drinking artificially flavored sugar water with harmful dyes…..we think we are doing good. Millions(probably billions) of dollars well spent and kudos to the marketing team. In reality, we are getting water (thank God), processed sugar, or if it says low sugar or no sugar you are drinking artificial sugar, artificial flavors, AND, how does it get to be all those vibrant colors of red, blue, and orange? You guessed it and it’s not cherries, blueberries, or oranges. Artificial colors. Yuck. So after we do our body good by exercising, lets put real electrolytes back in our body with coconut water( which I don’t personally love plain), or some filtered water with a little Himalayan salt and squeeze an orange,(now this is good) or if you have time, this delicious post work out drink. (it’s a quick three-minute viddie to see recipe!)

Serves: 1
  • 1 cup raw organic coconut water
  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1-2 cups frozen or fresh organic spinach
  • 1 inch of peeled ginger--more if you want more ZING.
  • 1 tablespoon coconut butter
  • ¼ cup organic raspberries (frozen or fresh)
  • ¼ cup organic frozen blueberries
  • 4 romaine leaves
  1. Combine coconut water, frozen banana, and ginger and mix in blender.
  2. Add all remaining ingredients until blended.
  3. Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy.

I sometimes will do 1/2 cup Aloe Water and 1/2 cup coconut water depending on my mood. I personally like most of my fruits frozen because I like it icy cold. And more great news…..I had to make this early in the morning and then go to work out and see clients—-about a three-hour time frame—so I added some ice cubes and it actually tasted just as good, if not better than if you drink it immediately. That is NOT the case with most smoothies in my experience and I am wayyyyyy picky. And in case you are wondering….I added the berries for a high fiber antioxidant boost and they help regulate your sugar, the ginger because it aids in digestion and adds great flavor, the romaine because it has vitamins and is made of mostly water, spinach because it is a nutritional powerhouse, coconut butter because I wanted a healthy fat in there to keep me full if I am drinking it as a meal replacement, and the banana because it is rich in potassium and makes the smoothie taste yummy, and of course, the coconut water because it has natural electrolytes.

Paddle boarding, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, yoga on the dock, beach power walks, beach volleyball, ping pong, basketball, tennis, bocce, and even trapeze. (all included in your price) Not to mention you are on one of the top rated beaches in the entire world. You do have to be eighteen, have a passport, and be ready for maximum activity and fun or just chillin’ on the beach. It’s almost impossible to gain weight on this vacation with all these activities not to mention the dancing at night……for hours.  So, what is this place?  It’s called Club Med on the island of Turks and Caicos. Nicknamed Turquoise because that is the actual color of the water. Go visit and let your adventure begin.

So, my niece and I just returned and have to walk around with buckets to hold our tears. Was our room totally lush and extravagant? No. But we were never in it. Was the food 4 star? Nope, and coming from a foodie that could be a disaster. But it wasn’t. For the first time in a long time the food didn’t seem to really matter. I could always find something to suit me even though it wasn’t gourmet. The coffee was delicious, the breads were freshly baked (I fell in love with their chocolate bread dipped into my coffee), the salads were refreshing, and there was always something simple I could find at the buffet. And this pic is where we ate most of our breakfasts and lunches ….the picture speaks for itself.

Sooooo, that was pretty fun. You don’t get to try trapeze very often. The scariest part was climbing up the teeny tiny little ladder without a harness. Then reaching over to an even teenier and tinier platform. My adrenaline was off the charts. I could barely think. You would imagine once they put the harness on my fears would slightly dissipate……not a chance. You lean forward and put your life into the instructors hands who is holding the harness. When they say, “hep” you are required to jump off the platform and go flying through the air. Terrifying and exhilarating all wrapped up into one. They tell you to put your knees up and then let go with your hands. Geez. If you do that a few times with success you are ready for the catch which you see in the viddie. One of the coolest things I have ever done.(I say that now, but at the moment, each time I got off the trapeze I was shaking like a leaf) But….still can’t wait to go back and do it again.

The sunsets were so breathtaking I couldn’t possibly describe the beauty. This picture wasn’t even taken with a good camera. It’s from my phone and I haven’t even upgraded to the iPhone 6 yet. So if you’re wondering why it looks so perfect…’s because it was.

So does summer camp exist for adults? Without a doubt. And besides the insane turquoise water and never ending activity—- what really makes this place unique is the employees. They are called G.O.’s. It stands for General Officers and they are like your favorite camp counselor on steroids! They are from all over the world and speak many languages and are organizing activities for YOU the whole day.  They also give you lessons for every activity imaginable and throw the best dance parties I’ve ever been too. We not only learned the trapeze, we took lessons in sailing, windsurfing and SUP. These “G.O.”s perform hysterical shows each night and when you leave it feels like you’re leaving a bunch of friends behind.

Can’t wait till my next Club Med. Onto Cancun in November!!
